Bodmin is in the very heart of Cornwall, you can take a short trip on the Bodmin and Wenford Steam Railway, Bodmin Gaol (Historic House of Correction notorious over the years for hosting many public executions), Bodmin Folk Club, Camel Trail, Cardinham Woods Nature Trails, Lanhydrock (National Trust), Pencarrow House, Cornwall Theatre.

Bodmin & Wenford Railway

Distance: 16 miles
This railway is Cornwall’s only standard gauge railway still operated by steam locomotives & they travel through some beautiful Cornish scenery. There’s a Souvenir shop & refreshment room in the restored station buildings. Boscarne Junction provides a direct link with the “Camel Trail” and cycle/footpath. Bodmin Parkway station is on the main rail line from London to Penzance & has a beautiful walk along the old carriage drive to Lanhydrock House.

Bodmin Moor

Distance: 12 miles
Situated only half a mile to the North West of the Manor, this windswept upland made famous by Daphne du Maurier’s ‘Jamaca Inn’ is the perfect venue for a visit or long walk, with it’s giant standing stones, cairns and Bronze Age settlements.

Carnglaze Caverns

Distance: 9 miles
Originally an opencast quarry that’s been extended into vast underground caverns set in six & a half acres of wooded hillside. You’ll be taken on a guided tour through beautiful caverns of cathedral proportions. You’ll see the famous subterranean lake with its crystal clear blue/green water. One of the caverns has been transformed into a concert auditorium (The Rum Store).

Colliford Lake Park

Distance: 13 miles
Colliford Lake Park combines the beauty of Bodmin Moor & Colliford Lake with plenty of fun activities. The site boasts several ‘Bio Domes’ which house many exotic plants which would otherwise perish in the UK climate. The new hangloose zip wire is also worth checking out.

Jamaica Inn

Distance: 10 Miles
Cornwall’s legendary coach house which is immortalised in Daphne du Maurier’s novel of the same name. The Inn has stood on Bodmin Moor for over 4 centuries. Learn of the many ghostly hauntings at the inn & visit the ‘Jamaica Inn story’ which tells of the evil yet romantic era of Cornwall smuggling & see what is probably the finest collection of smuggling artefacts in the country.

Siblyback Lake & watersports centre offers a wide range of activities. Tuition of windsurfing, sailing and canoeing plus rowing boats for hire.
